Nepotianus forcibly entered Rome in 350 with gladiators. If Sulla had used a force of gladiators over 400 years earlier when he entered Rome would the population have thought of using gladiators as an army been different?

How much do we know about the degree to which pre-Columbian civilizations in the Americas saw a historical continuity between themselves and previous societies? For example, did the Inca view themselves as successors to the Wari in the same way that Europeans related themselves to the Romans?
